Mathieson looked terrific in the AFL - still can't believe he was hitting 97 after all of those surgeries.

He reminds me of Grant Balfour. Should be fun to watch if he makes it out of spring training.

That'll be interesting to see if it works out. If it doesn't, he's still a candidate to replace Lidge eventually.

Colvin arrested in a bar fight...

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?...=.jsp&c_id=mlb

i've read rumor and hearsay that the kid is kinda a jerk, but maybe this is a decent wake-up call.

Same thing happened to Hamels once upon a time.

I'm so geeked for this year's baseball season. not just for the phillies, but I'm psyched to catch a bunch of games at Reading and Lakewood. Both should be interesting.

Reading:
Brown
Gillies
Aumont
JC Ramirez
Galvis
Schwimmer
Rosenberg
Flande
Hyatte
Worley
Stutes

Lakewood
Cosart
Valle
James
Castro
Collier
Hewitt
Shreve
Pettibone

(hopefully)
Colvin
Singleton
Dugan

That's a lot of outfielders at lakewood (hewitt is playing CF these days) someone will be down in williamsport to start the season, but hopefully some guys step up and move onto clearwater with Gose.

Lots of guys to go and see... the system is so stacked with unrealized talent, the list will be completely different going into 2011. It will be a fascinating season to watch. I may even have to take a trip up to williamsport to catch a game or two there.

Some nice press for cosart. Earlier this month Michael schwimer answering questions from his mailbag at phuturephils.com....

Quote:
I know you probably will not answer this question but do you have any bold/crazy prediction for this upcoming year?- Josh, Philly

I hope I do not get into trouble for saying this but my bold prediction of 2010 is… Before the start of next season Jarred Cosart will be a top 25 prospect in all of baseball, IF he can stay healthy. Right now he is not in anyone’s top 200, but this season he will prove that he belongs among the game’s elite prospects.
http://phuturephillies.com/2010/03/2...ining-mailbag/

That would be a heck of a jump for a kid pitching in A ball all season. Top 25 is usually saved for guys who have proved a lot more than Jarred will be able to in one season, but it would be nice if he was breaking the top 100.

Also;
Quote:
In his second season in the Philadelphia Phillies organization, Creek grad Jarred Cosart is making quite an impression.

The eighth-ranked prospect for the Phillies was awarded the Bill Giles Award at the end of spring training. The award is given to the player in Phillies camp who displayed “love and respect for the game of baseball, an outstanding work ethic and pride in being a member of the Phillies.”
http://galvestondailynews.com/story/154578

I am so geeked to see Lakewood play this year. Rosters were announced and Lakewood has:
P Colvin, Cosart, Pettibone, Way
C Valle
SS Villar
OF Collier, Santana, Hewitt, Jiwan James, Castro

Someone has to break out of this lot of tools... right?

I wish someone else would start one of these threads about their teams... heck, i wish everyone would.

Another Cosart article

http://www.csnphilly.com/03/23/10/El...038&feedID=693

Despite all these attractions, the best show at the Phillies spring-training complex Tuesday happened beyond the outfield walls, away from the buzz of the big-league game and the sweet smell of onions grilling at the cheesesteak stand.

Quote:
The best show was provided over at the minor-league complex, by a 19-year-old kid with one of those arms that you can dream on.

His name is Jarred Cosart.

“Just look for the kid with the best arm in the place,” a Phillies official told a reporter who had ventured over to the minor-league complex, which sits just beyond Bright House Field’s leftfield wall, to see Cosart pitch.

What can you tell me about Trevor May in terms of stuff, upside, polish, etc? Just drafted him in my NL only league kind of on a whim and from a glowing review I read (I think it was Fangraphs).

Phils 4th round pick in 2008. Big, 6'5". Good fastball 92-94, 12-6 curve and developing change that is decent but still needs work. I've seen him as high as #2 on Phillies prospects lists and he almost always comes in the top 5. Baseball America had him as the Phillies #5 starter in their 2013 crystal ball, and he projects to be a middle of the rotation pitcher with strikeout capability. He'll be pitching in high-A clearwater this year as a 20 year old.

Savery's best shot at the majors is to dust his bat off and see if he has any better luck. Big disappointment.
