McCutchen's presence on that list suggests it may be a bit sloppy.
Meanwhile, Eric Young II must kidnap puppies or something. He constantly gets ignored....

Thanx for the list, Matt, but what method did you use for these rankings? If it was just raw speed, then it's a curious list. Just off the top of my head, Derrick Robinson and Jarrod Dyson in the KC org are considered 2 of the fastest guys in the minors, but neither is on your list. Quinton Berry and Craig Gentry are 2 other burners that are missing. There are a number of players that BA lists as the fastest in an org that arent on your list. E.g., Fernando Perez is TB's fastest, yet Jennings is #8 on your list. Melky Mesa is the Yanks' fastest, yet Almonte is #3 on your list. Jiwan James is the Phils' fastest, yet Gose is #22 on your list. Daniel Fields is the Tigers' fastest, but Nunez is #7 and Jackson is #25 on your list.
Gaston at #4 is particularly curious; I've never heard him described has having great speed. His BA scouting report says he has fringe-average speed. BTW, in addition to McCutchen, Borbon is no longer a prospect either. |

For the Phillies, Gillies and Gose are definite top-10 prospects, but Berry is far down on the list, a 5th OF type and James is probably somewhere in the top 25, but still working his way up. |

Some rate him as a top 50 prospect and others don't even have him on their top 100 lists. What little I've read of him is that he just doesn't have much upside. Most likely a part-time player at the MLB level. However, you look at his numbers from last year and they are quite impressive. |

He may be using some speed 'formula' that takes 2Bs and 3Bs, going from 1B to 3B on a single, etc. into consideration. Last edited by rhd; 02-09-2010 at 08:07 PM.. |

From watching him play, which is a small sample size, I can tell you that he is a throw back type. He hustles and is fun to watch. He looked like he had a good arm and excellent speed. He hit in the minors so who knows.

What he doesn't have much of is power. But he'll be a leadoff type if he makes it to the bigs.

Philadelphia: November 9, 2009 Seattle: January 22, 2010 Gillies was traded from Seattle to Philadelphia in mid-December. So he didn't have a chance to make either BA top-10 list. Anyone who starts with the BA top 10s, or adjusts for them may have unwittingly penalized Gillies. RHD made sure he put up his top fantasy baseball-specific top 15s before the BA list. And he had Gillies #2 for Seattle.

all the different phillies lists I've seen have Gillies in the top 5 in the system.
Brown ~~ ~~ Gillies, Aumont, May, Ramirez, Gose
